Not all of my brides are born with perfect skin. For those who are-- count yourself lucky!! Many work super hard to achieve the skin you see on my Instagram profile and portfolio. Sometimes, I post photos of bridesmaids in my stories after a wedding, and if you look closely, you can see that makeup on them looks just a little different than on their bride. It still looks great but the difference between bridesmaids' versus brides' makeup is the skin underneath and the months of prep that went into making the makeup stay flawless. You might have already heard this but it's true-- your makeup will look amazing if you have a good skincare routine.
After securing their date with me, I always share my Bridal Beauty Guide with all my brides. They get access to a industry-exclusive information about everything wedding-beauty related. Brides who have makeup that lasts all day do the homework I assign them. And good news: anyone can get good skin! It doesn't require a huge budget :)
Here is what my 2024 bride, Meg, loved about her makeup and my guide as she prepared for her wedding day:
"I cannot say enough good things about working with Olivia! She was a pleasure to work with and made me and everyone in the bridal party feel so beautiful on the big day. She was incredibly considerate and open to feedback -- the final look was beyond perfect. I felt like the best version of myself. She was extremely helpful and communicative along the way. I can confirm that the makeup lasted until 1AM when I took it off. Thanks to the great tips she shared in her beauty guide, my skin has never looked better! Can't recommend Olivia enough!"
If you want long-lasting, flawless makeup until 1AM like Meg, here are some things you can do!
External AND internal hydration. This is the BEST way to achieve a glowy, flawless canvas for makeup. Add more moisture to your skin by drinking more water, about 8-12 glasses a day-- or more if you drink alcohol. Avoid things that dry out your skin like tanning beds, smoking, sunburns, coffee (I know-- this one is hard), alcohol, excess salt. And then obviously, make sure to externally hydrate your skin with a really nice moisturizer.
Avoid foods that cause oxidative stress (thanks Dr. Michael Greger for this resource!) because these cause our bodies to prematurely age. Things like processed foods, red meats, sugar, fried foods all cause oxidative stress and this can impact how your cells heal and grow. Incorporate foods that are anti-oxidants and promote collagen production. So things like blueberries and walnuts (you can find out other AMAZING superfoods I recommend in my Bridal Beauty Guide when you secure your date with me)!
If you're considering incorporating a retinol-- DON'T do it!! Instead, focus on protecting your skin barrier and building it up (cough cough- use my tips above). Retinol is super drying and can be very harsh on your skin. If you're planning to start it, hold off on retinol until after the wedding. Also, this just isn't good for people with sensitive skin.
If you want help with cell-turnover and speeding up the process and there's room in your budget, I do recommend looking into laser therapy. Laser therapy is so amazing for texture and hyperpigmentation. Depending on the type that you do, it can have little downtime for healing. If you do laser therapy, your last session should be at least 2-3 months before your wedding to optimize healing your skin barrier. Please go to qualified professionals! With your skin (like makeup), you get what you pay for. I provide more information about my favorite laser therapy types and top medspas in my Bridal Beauty Guide ;)
Okay, that's it from me! If you want more tips, request your date and I'll let you know if I'm available. Once booked, I'll share the rest of my amazing tips with you through my exclusive Bridal Beauty Guide!
xoxo,
Olivia
